GUEST POST | 10 Ways Exercise Makes You Gorgeous
7/12/2017
Anyone who has consistently stuck to their routine of going to the gym every morning, hiking in the woods in the evening knows something very few people are privy to. The rewards of exercises exceed increasing muscle mass and slimming down. Lots of subtle changes happen to the body in ways even scientists are still trying to unravel.
Your skin will begin to look brighter, steps will be more confident, and your ability to think clearly will be heightened. These changes might be invisible to an unobservant relative or colleague, but they are there for all to see.
Do you still need more incentive to pick up your gear? Here is a peek into some of the things that you're missing out on. These are the few ways exercise makes you look gorgeous.
1. More Self Confidence
A recent British study found out that those who began an exercise program often feel better about their self-worth and overall health compared to their friends who don't. The thing about self-worth and self-confidence is that it begins to grow even before you notice any change in your body. Confident people radiate a certain appeal and charisma. There are lots of fitness activities that you can engage in to increase your self-esteem. Aerobics exercises are known for improving mental positivity while Tai-chi can boost your self-worth, as well as weight lifting. Every time, you're able to lift another pound, you feel good about yourself.
2. Smoother Skin
According to Audrey Kuni MD, "working up a good sweat is similar to getting a facial." When the pores dilate, they expel trapped dirt and oil which will be sucked back into the pores on your face if you don't wash them out afterward.
Exercises are beneficial to the skin not just because it helps it expel dirt and oil. It also works on inflammation and prevents radical damage done to the skin. There are tiny arteries in your skin that open up when you exercise - these arteries push blood and nutrients to the skin's surface which repairs damaged cells from exposure to the sun and other pollutants in the environment. Regular exercise is also known to reduce stress, thereby improving skin conditions such as acne and eczema.
3. Stress and Anxiety
When you're stressed, it becomes difficult to sleep. The fearfulness and anxiety that comes with it also drain your body of vitality and affects your mood. All of these will reflect on your face and your self-worth. An American study showed that a 15 minutes exercise could create a certain calm that can last for hours. When you exercise, there is an increase in the production of endorphins (which are feel-good neurotransmitters). It can also help you to forget the irritations and how you felt before you began the activity. It is meditation in motion. Some fitness activities that are suitable for people dealing with stress and anxiety include sprinting or tennis.
4. Increased Stature
We still don't know why people get taller when they exercise, but we believe the study will reveal our suspicions. Activities that stretch and strengthen your muscles will always make you taller. They also correct bad posture as muscle groups that have contracted to have that hunched posture will be lengthened and the posture will be improved. For those with hunched shoulders, working on strengthening the muscles at the upper back with resistance bands or with elliptical machines which work on the upper and lower body muscles simultaneously.
5. Immunity and Detoxification
Exercises decrease the chances of developing heart disease as it promotes weight reduction and reduces the blood pressure. Some physical activities also reduce bad cholesterol (the low-density lipoprotein [LDL] levels) in the blood while raising the levels of good cholesterol in the body (high-density lipoprotein [HDL]). Our body has roughly 500 lymph nodes. These nodes work on the body to empty out the metabolic trash with the help of the muscles. When muscles contract during exercise, the pressure is put on lymph nodes to pump these waste out of the system. These waste are the reasons you look polluted and puff.
When the body experiences increased blood circulation, the white blood cells are produced, and the best way to achieve this is to do things that make you exert a lot of energy.
6. Quality Sleep
An intense workout session will leave you wanting a longer recovery time. When exercising to improve sleep, you should be aware that timing is everything. Your body temperature goes up while working out and drops off after. This dip in body temperature is the reason why the body craves for a recovery time. The cooler the body temperature is, the more likely you are to feel sleepy. Exercise also releases cortisol out of the body which helps you sleep soundly and wake up refreshed. This allows your body use the time to repair worn out tissue in your body - leaving you feeling gorgeous and great.
7. Visceral Fat
Regular exercise can help you rid your body of excess fat lying inside the body. The body contains two types of fat, but the visceral fat is less visible and more dangerous to the fan on the surface. It fuels inflammation in the body and is tied to the growth of heart disease and cancer.
8. Better Sex Hormones
Getting fit doesn't just make you look sexy, it helps you feel sexy as it balances your sex hormone levels which can improve your overall appearance and how you carry yourself. The most common sex hormone linked to exercise is endorphins, but other hormones like testosterone are boosted thanks to regular exercises.
9. Improves Digestion
Exercise can remedy improper digestion by strengthening the abdomen walls and intestinal muscles allowing food to be broken down efficiently. Since digestion problems are linked to the dullness that appears on the skin.
10. Oxidative Stress
Exercise is the fastest way to reverse the aging process. It is ideal for the production of happy hormones needed to make you look radiant at all times. Hormones such as serotonin and dopamine are released during exercise.
So get into the gym today and if you’re too busy, start exercising in smaller steps in your home or office. Exercise is beneficial to your overall well being and it will definitely make you look gorgeous.
